![]() Shooting through the fence is not really possible as you will get told off by the police pretty quickly. They might stay there and look at you during this time though. The police might come and ask you a few questions but they are rather fine when you tell them you are planespotting. Heat haze is present throughout the entire year. ![]() You might also be able to spot aircraft taxiing to runway 20 or vacating runway 02 but heat haze is a problem at most times.įrom sunrise till noon in summer, in winter till 2 PM. This spot is located at the end of Kuhea Street, accessible by car only via a back road behind the airport fire station and the GA apron – Kuhea St is closed now.Īll runway 02/20 movements, runway 05 departures and runway 23 arrivals. Spot #6 – General Aviation – 02/20 + 05 Departures + 23 Arrivals We didn’t test the spot ourselves yet, but an example shot looks like THIS. Nothing nearby, ladder needed for apron shots normally, but helicopters in the air can be shot without one as well. Heat haze might be a problem on hot days and due to helicopters anyway, because they create a lot of heat all time, so second/third row of parking spots might be difficult already. But early morning won’t be perfect, as sun has to climb over the vulcanhill first and same fits for late evening, when the sun is supposed to be gone behind the other vulcanhill as well. You can also see the runway 02/20 from here.ĭepending on the angle of the parked/flying helicopter and your exact position. The helicopter apron can be seen from here quite well. This spot is located inside the parking of “Pacific Helicopter Tours” – a company, which is located just next to the parking. Spot #5 – Helicopter apron – Helicopter apron This runway is barely used as you’d have stronger side winds here. Major runway due to its direction and length. So you’ll have winds up to 70 km/h here almost all over the year, coming from northeastern direction (50-60 geographical degree). The airport is located in a kind of valley between two vulcans, due to its location passatwinds are normally reinforced. No reports about issues with airport security. But the winter might be better for spotting due to the lower temperatures, so you won’t have heat haze as fast as in the summer. There is no off- or on-season here, regarding the airtraffic. ![]() There are a couple of hotels in the city and of course a huge offer of spots to sleep at on the island. There are many shops, stores and restaurants west of spot #1, where you can find food, drinks and restrooms. Parking is no problem at the mentioned spots and the hot temperatures don’t invite normal people to walk long distances by foot. Public transport in this area is quite poor, a car will be much easier anyway. There are almost always alternative spots for the ones, where a ladder is needed.
